just thought i'd share what i found in my fortune cookie.
(i know, fortune cookies are inviting demons, just like lucky charms cereal 😜) well actually it's more of a proverb, like most of them are nowadays:.
"as one grows to understand life less and less, one learns to live it more and more.".

This is definitely true with many of us. As JWs, we were enticed with absolute truth taught by an organization. When things contradicted this premise, many of us had to suppress the logical side of our minds, which led to great confusion, distress and anguish. Now, knowing that it isn't "The Truth" brings me, not fear of the unknown, but liberation. I can't know everything, NOBODY can know everything. And that is A-OK! Instead of stress from trying to MAKE things fit into a convoluted and flawed framework, the world is now a much bigger place. I'm free to use my own God-given mind to take things as I see them and progress, learning more as I go (because there will always be more to learn), and not fearing someone trying to control the conclusions I draw.
so the qbs were huge in the 80s and 90s, now i hear nothing.
have they stopped?.

That's exactly what I was gonna say, there were never any real quick builds, the whole thing was just a big parlor trick, to get attention. And those ignorant of what went on behind the scenes thought it was some kind of 'miracle'. 😒 And yes, all the people standing around (I was one of them, the unskilled volunteers). They don't mind, because nobody's being paid.
i'm not sure if this was mentioned yet, but at this week's meeting they announced (or will announce for those who haven't had theirs yet) the availability of a new official statement on child abuse that can be downloaded in the legal section of jwdotorg.
(funny it's in the legal section, it just shows their mentality and how this is really damage control.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned yet, but at this week's meeting they announced (or will announce for those who haven't had theirs yet) the availability of a new official statement on child abuse that can be downloaded in the Legal section of JWdotORG. (Funny it's in the legal section, it just shows their mentality and how this is really damage control.) Here's the link:
It starts out by defining child abuse for those who don't know:
Child abuse may include neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, or emotional abuse. Child sexual abuse is a perversion and generally includes one or more of the following: sexual intercourse with a child; oral or anal sex with a child; fondling the genitals, breasts, or buttocks of a child; voyeurism of a child; indecent exposure to a child; or soliciting a child for sexual conduct. It may include sexting with a minor or showing pornography to a minor.
Point #3 is very familiar:
Jehovah’s Witnesses abhor child abuse
I wonder when they're gonna realize this is a running joke at this point. The next point says this:
In all cases, victims and their parents have the right to report an accusation of child abuse to the authorities. . . . Elders do not criticize anyone who chooses to make such a report.
Of course, they fail to mention that for the vast majority of the org's history this was not the case, and that the org itself in a letter from the WT Society discouraged reporting for the sake of 'bringing reproach' on the organization.
And now for the positive. Regarding Elders handling cases:
This is a purely religious proceeding handled by elders according to Scriptural instructions and is limited to the issue of membership as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. . . . The elders’ handling of an accusation of child abuse is not a replacement for the authorities’ handling of the matter.
This is good to hear. Also, we know that in the past the org said publicly that "known" child abusers could never hold responsibility in the congregation, while saying privately that a hard and fast rule on that would be unscriptural and making a legalistic definition for the word "known", as well as having an indefinite time period after which they could serve again, which could theoretically be as little as months. In this statement at least for the first time they admit publicly that the ban isn't hard and fast, and they do define the minimum sanction as being decades.
A person who has engaged in child sexual abuse does not qualify to receive any congregation privileges or to serve in a position of responsibility in the congregation for decades, if ever.
So it's a step in the right direction. But what is infuriating is how JWs are late to the game in regards to this, yet they never admit they have a problem, never apologize, only make changes when they're absolutely backed into a corner and then pretend it was their idea.
anyone that you miss from this site, dead or alive??.

Perry (who said he's been barred from staring topics for years, not sure if that's true)
at today's wt study about child baptism, someone commented and she pointed to the picture of the little girl playing with her teddy bear.
she said, 'she may be looking at her bear and thinking about getting to play with bears in the new system.
her parents notice this, and they decide since it's real to her she may be ready for baptism.
I really hope that somehow, membership in a religion can be regulated by the law, so that it's viewed as a contract and all things have to be up front, and minors aren't eligible. I know that's a long shot because it's too vague to implement IRL, and it could be viewed as going against separation of church and state or freedom of religion. But there must be some way to prevent this, maybe from the angle of human rights abuses.

i have a friend who got df'ed recently and he had a major role on a 5 min broadcasting film.
the film was made before he got df'ed (obviously), so it wont be on air.
as he told me it was to be on july or august program.
Is there any more information you can give, like content, etc. of the video?

i doubt this statistic.
Well, I know a lot don't do it, but there are a lot that do take the org's command to "read God's word the holy Bible daily" seriously. I know when I was mentally in for as long as I remember I was told to do this and I did it. Most of my family and friends did to. It's just an old JW custom, they even had those words emblazoned on the side of the Bethel factory building for decades. That being said, the type of "Bible reading" most JWs engage in isn't really Bible reading in its most raw form. It is ALWAYS through the lens of dogma and usually accompanied by JW literature. If a JW actually read the Bible by itself with a clear head and opened mind, they would 'revert' if you will to the basic beliefs of the churches. As a matter of fact, if any JW is known to harbor different beliefs or to have even small, private Bible reading/study groups with other JWs, they could be subject to accusations of apostasy and disfellowshipping.
